both PC & Mac have their pros & cons
The best way is to use both....
I am a more software-oriented person, so I would go for any platforms as long as the program is available. some programs just happen to work smoother with Mac or PC only.
Ichiban, since you hate mac so much, are you giving away your powerbook? I am about to retire my slow 12" ibook, which I bought 2 years ago.

I like cool user interfaces and that's why I like Macs. PC's have their place, i.e. for work, etc. I think for either PC or Mac if the computer is slow then add more memory. whether you buy from Dell or Apple the amount of memory that comes with the computer is usually not enough to make it blazing fast. our powerbook has been running fine (768MB).
