I.Moving without moving
I have never used professional movers before, but I was just too tired to move my self this time. And at the end of it all I think its all worth it. The movers were meticulous on small items and wrapped the items very well.
I was also very pleased with the new building, friendly staff and a unique setup of a concierge service (Rose, she is a good now). The staff were all friendly, and helpful and I am very glad that is the situation. I am also glad that we have a wholesale fruit market, and a meat market with a huge walk-in meat locker all at ghetto prices!
II.Need to learn how to drive a bulldozer
Each morning I walk about 12 mins from 42 btw 8-9 to 47 and 8-bway. I was wondering if that is a good thing, walking to work. Here are the pros and cons:
Pros:
-Its good for me, walking is an underrated work-out
-My ETA is not effected by Mass transit outages
-I get the enjoy the nice weather.
-Its fun to see lost tourist (how can they get lost with numbed streets?!?!)
Cons:
No excuse for being late to work
It’s a nice walk in the in summer, but deadly walk in the winter
Too many tourists stopping and going and looking up, I need a bulldozer!!
III.The twenty dollar handshake
Earlier this week, We had cable installed in the apartment and I asked the cable guy if he can install in both rooms, but he told me that it was impossible because I had only paid for one cable box. I asked him are you sure its impossible, he said that is company policy. Then I said: Mike (from his name tag) If you take care of me, I'll take care of you. "Enter the twenty dollar handshake" (used often for after work social activities).
As shady as it sounds, I now have cable connection for both of my rooms and Mike even added "free" set of component video cable. I would never know either Mike was a snake and ripped me of for $20 or he really decides to dissimulate his company policy. All I know that the world is pretty messed up, but if you ride the wave it may lean toward your advantage.
IV.Does Kimchee know what is trash?
"on behalf of the xx floor, Please do not leave trash on the floor, please use the chute =)" for about a week now LL and I have been wondering who this person that leaves the trash in front of the grabage chute. So LL and I have decided to put this sign up in the compactor room "on behalf of the xx floor, Please do not leave trash on the floor, please use the chute =)" We have a good feeling that they are Korean because the source of the trash is always Korean. We will keep eveyone posted.
