While flying past Europe and flying over the Middle East on my flight to Dubai, I have suddenly realized that the plane was heading straight over Iraq. Thankfully the pilot have veered off course to avoid flying over Iraq. Then I begin to look around the countries in the area, and realized that there is no county in that region that I would rather to fly over, think about it choose one Syria or Iran? Well thankfuilly I was flying Emirates, not American Airlines.
The thought conduces to thinking about the escalating violence in Lebanon, between the Israeli military and the Hezbollah, and the real possibility that it could spiral out of control, dragging more and countries into this mess. The Israelis have rejected calls from the international community, including the secretary-general of the United Nations, for an immediate ceasefire. Instead, the Israelis announced a unilateral 48-hour stop to their aerial pounding of southern Lebanon to allow humanitarian aid to be trucked in and civilian refugees to be trucked out of the battle zone.
In the meantime, the Israelis are losing the battle for the hearts, the Israeli smart bombs laser-guided into the immediate vicinity of the civilian refuge, and the thousands of refguges that are stuck without basic needs. The refuguges situation is said the be much worse then Kitrina. Now millions of TV viewers worldwide sees the images of broken bodies of children being pulled out of the rubble. Israel is fast running out of friends, but that would probably does not bother them, as they continue to enjoy the bottomless military protection and support of the Americans.
What is more scary is that Hezbollah, has strong links and support from Syria and Iran, so what the Israelis do after Lebanon? Will Israel begin to bomb those Hezbollah targets? And will they use American air bases Iraq to carryout their assault and drag Americans deep into this conflict?
Its not hard to connect the dots, when President George W. Bush’s global war on terrorism, combined with spreading regional wars like we’ve seen in Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine and Lebanon. One can just think of the anger that they generate and how easy it is for sides from coming into dangerous alignments.
Just look at the countries that are involved in the Strikes and counter strikes: USA, Afghanistan, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Sudan,, Israel, Pakistan, Kashmir, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Somalia, Istanbul, UK, Spain, India and now, Lebanon. I think this is actually more global than World War I already. One can argue that World War III has began
Also, I wonder how China and North Korea are going to play into this, It’s a known fact that China has been stockpiling their military versus the USA many called it "Cold War II" and I am sure that North Korea would not mind launching few missles at George Bush.
